Nicotine reduction app
Nicotine users often increase dosage over time and struggle to cut down.
I started smoking when I was sixteen, I have since moved to vaping and then snus/nicopods. I find that my nicotine intake has slowly increased as its easier to use snus than smoke. I was hoping for a way to keep track of nicotine intake and slowly reduce in a mindful way. In order to validate this problem I ran an online survey and interviewed some nicotine users.
Visual Design
UI & UX Design
I researched other smoking cessation apps, and all seemed to only focus on days without nicotine, money saved and achievements/gamification. There seemed to be a gap in the market for a tailored experience that helped users reduce their usage over time.
In the ideation phase I expanded on my research and came up with the main features of the app:
• A feature that allows users to have a tailored plan on how to reduce, weekly suggested frequency and dosage to taper down.
• A way to view the plan ahead of time in order to get their supply ahead of time.
• A way to be notified when it is time to take nicotine and the ability to see how long until next dose. This also lends its self to a smart-watch companion app allowing users to access notifications without using their mobile device.
In the prototyping phase I focused on the onboarding process to understand how the app would collect the right information in order to curate a plan. It was important to make this as clear and short as possible allowing users to edit their answers at anytime to make sure all the information is correct.
I wanted to ensure the apps visual design and branding was clean, modern and functional. The competitor apps were either extremely playful, busy and almost child like or overly minimal. I aimed to strike a balance between playful and clean/minimal.
